Official Web Site - Updated:  "This is a thoughtful, illustrated account of two aspects of Paediatrics in Cameroon. The origins of the Beryl Thyer Memorial Africa Trust are traced. The work of the Founder,
Dr Peter McCormick, is described. His passion for his African patients is clear. The future is laid before the reader. The hope is that the visitors to this web site will wish to become involved in the life-saving work of the Trust; both for newborn babies, and for children suffering from Burkitt's lymphoma
Hi from Peter McCormick,
Dear Visitor I thank you heartily for visiting my website.
I hope that you will read enough within the many pages of this site to move you and hopefully encourage you to lend me a hand in making a difference. The fearful plight of children with Burkitt's lymphoma, a most aggressive childhood malignancy, is as distressing as neonatal mortality statistics in Africa.
I sincerely hope that the considerable amount of information compiled within this site will prove to be thought provoking enough to inspire you to become a friend of the Beryl Thyer Memorial Africa Trust. Yes, every visitor is classed as a friend with some becoming extremely good friends indeed. Be well assured that your involvement, however big or small, will make a real difference to the lives of so many sick and underprivileged children and their parents.
The Beryl Thyer Memorial Africa Trust is addressing but a small corner of the massive problem of Burkitt's lymphoma. I am privileged to be in the front line of the battle. I have fine troops in the field, and a fine Director, what I now need is the cavalry behind me with the potentially great resources they have at their disposal for the support of the troops.
The Trust exists to help those who are ill-equipped to help themselves.
You will perhaps go on to read of the Trust's commitment to the investigation, treatment and follow-up of children with Burkitt's lymphoma free of charge, of our involvement in clinical research, of the results of our clinical Trials to date; of our published work; and of our plans to build up the service we provide.
You might also go on to read about the parlous state of the management of the newborn in sub-Saharan Africa in general, and Cameroon - especially at Banso Babtist Hospital and Mbingo Baptist Hospital in particular of which details are described on 'The Hospitals' page. We set out what has been done, what is being done, and what yet must be done to improve the unenviable neonatal mortality of Cameroonian babies.
The web site contains, I hope, enough background information to enable the visitor to grasp the size of these problems, and so enable him or her to arrive at rational decisions as to how to support the Trust.
To enable you to navigate this website please use the 'Site Map' link, located to the left or directly below, as a stepping stone between the many pages. If there are any issues or concerns that you would like to discuss with me please use the 'Contact the Trust' page to send a message.
Once again thanks for visiting and I do hope you will consider your time spent here has been worth it!
Kind regards,
